Jacqueline Wylie

Jacqueline Wylie explores how value is assigned to fine art materials and processes. Fascinated by in-between spaces, ‘othered’ or ‘outsider’ art, her art practice deals with inequalities and hidden history, for example her work with wool and the more recent documentation of rituals in Northern Ireland, where Wylie grew up at the height of the ‘troubles’.

“My practice is based around hand and machine knitting using a variety of materials, and also includes video, photography, and text based pieces.  I prefer to use simple, readily available materials and processes – pencil, pen, wool, photocopier, computer, mobile phone, as it is the ideas behind art that interest me most, not the processes, or ‘craft’, as such. These materials/methods often appear in combination in my art, they serve to transform the work, to add layers of meaning.”

Wylie is currently continuing to produce knitted paintings, developing a group of new works for the Great Northern Craft Fair taking place at Manchester Grammar school in October 2008. For more information about this event visit: http://www.greatnorthernevents.co.uk/
