Michelle Nriapia

Michelle Nriapia’s continued passion for the urban environment is reflected in her work.  Her concerns lie mainly in the textural elements, marks and colours one encounters within the city landscape.  Through her observations of buildings, structures and surfaces, Nriapia has been able to develop this theme further.  Discolouration and decay, which at first glance appear to destroy the beauty of the city, in fact enhance its richness.

Having vast experience in a number of practices,  Nriapia defines herself as a mixed media artist.  Her striking compositions are created using a variety of media, often layered onto board and canvas.  This method enables her to fully capture and explore the textural diversity of the ever-changing urban scene.

Michelle Nriapia has taught art and design in Manchester schools for 12 years and she is currently the art curriculum coordinator at the Key Stage 4 PRU in Manchester
