100th Monkey is an artist-led group. Brought together as the art collective '14 Gifted Children' during our university days we found ourselves institutionally homeless after 3 years. Seeking structure, we formed 100th Monkey, named after a disputed theory of parallel evolution and shared experience. The "100th monkey effect" is a supposed phenomenon in which a learned behaviour spreads instantaneously from one group of monkeys to all monkeys. Once a critical number is reached, there may be an instant paranormal spreading of an idea or an ability to the remainder of the population. Basing our activities on this concept, our mission as 100th Monkey is to be developing and expanding networks between artists.
