Yuen Fong Ling

Ling’s recent work explores the social, political and cultural conditions of ‘looking at each other’ reflecting on its development in the ways and the means with which we see ourselves. In his ongoing “Life Class Series”, Ling alters the format of the observational life class as a metaphor for the wider social arena of spectatorship. Here, the life class simultaneously entangles the audience into the reading, making and staging of the artwork, where the resulting documentation questions the relationship between perception and representation, and the gap that persists. Ling simultaneously encompasses the practice of artist as model cum curator into a singular activity to ask questions of the nature of authorship, power, and a body of relations.
